part of the preparations for the scheduled installation of N2 Applied’s prototype plasma reactor in the pilot line during Q2 2014. Progress is according to plan at this stage.

The efficient thermal biogas plant is producing an interesting liquid bio-rest with a surplus of free ammonia.  The task for our prototype is both to contain the ammonia with nitrate and upgrade the liquid bio-rest to a nutrient more suitable for agricultural applications.  The liquid bio-rest is otherwise recycled to the inlet of the sewage treatment plant or just released into the nearby Mjøsa lake – where it is quickly taken into the microbiological activity. 

The objectives of the test is to verify the simple chemistry and overall efficiency in this type of application.  How much of the free ammonia is actually free? And how much nitrate can the bio-rest solution absorb before the pH goes too low?  Further optional investigations will be the stability of the upgraded solution and the improved value as a nutrient.
